Another year is about to end and another one will begin. Looking back, it’s easy to think and say that I regret this and I regret that. I don’t have any regrets, so you won’t hear me ever utter a sentence saying that I regret saying or doing something. For years I lived a life afraid of what others thought about what I did, what I said and what I wore. I lived life according to what others thought best. And for years I didn’t try to do anything to change that. Well… I began trying. And I began surrounding myself with people who embraced and supported my efforts of trying; trying anything new, positive, creative and innovative. Where has it gotten me? There’s been a bit of an awakening that has occurred within these last 2 years, to say the least. My friends and family members who like to stay within the lines and rules of society’s definition of  “normal” think I’m crazy because they thought I had it made. My parents think I’ve opened a can of worms. Little do people know… and little will always be what they know. I’m trying new things. I’m encouraging my son to do the same in the smallest and biggest of ways. I’m also sharing peaceful private moments with someone special that I ordinarily have been selfish about sharing with anyone, family or friend. I like my peace, but this new philosophy of “trying” is giving me the courage to share a private side of my emotions and mind I hate sharing with others. He calms me. He doesn’t even have to say anything. In fact, it’s usually in his presence, in his silence that I’m most calm. Odd? I don’t care, but I enjoy that kind of peace. I’m keeping an open mind about what cards I play with the hand I’ve been dealt and I’m okay with that because I’m at peace with things thus far. I pray this new year, and the years to come are prosperous in all aspects of my life because whether they are or aren’t, I’ll continue trying.
