My Lyfestyle Through Lyrics
[#ipodonrepeat Polynesian People – Norm Thompson]
My name is Lia and I’m a proud Polynesian. I’m proud, yet humble. But catch me on a day when I see some nonsense happening before my eyes and the polynesian within me springs into action. This happened the other day on my twitter timeline. A beautiful Polynesian sister and a handsome Polynesian brother of mine, both of which I follow, were negatively going back and forth with each other. Somewhere, somehow, the lines of communication were improperly crossed. I’m not going to go into great deal about the ordeal because it’s minute in comparison to the message I want to share in this post.
Many non-polynesian people have a predisposition about us Polynesian people. We’re huge, athletic, intimidating, big boned… the list goes on and on. Of course all those characteristics are true for me and most Polynesians but there are so many more sides to us than our aesthetics. I’m laughing at myself because my twitter followers that conversate with me regularly will read that precious sentence and think “uh Lia, if you’re other readers only knew your many sides” lol.
This song, Polynesian People by Norm Thompson, is a song I blast on occasion when I’m homesick, when I’m missing my people. There aren’t but a few of us here in town. The day the negative exchange occurred on my twitter timeline, I stopped and tweeted love and positivity to get my followers to understand that we, Polynesians, should uphold ourselves up to a higher standard because it’s what our ancestors, grand-parents and parents taught us. I ended my rant with this song because this song and it’s lyrics speak EXACTLY to who we are. These lyrics are also what I want tattooed on my body because it’s speaks to who I am, live to be and express myself as on a daily basis.
I may be far from home, but home is always in my heart. I love you #TeamPoly. Represent yourselves, your family, your ancestors, Polynesia and Oceania right; with love, humility, pride, strength and loyalty. Only then will the world see through our actions how they shoul represent themselves.
Polynesian People as performed by Norm Thompson
We are the people of the Polynesian Islands. We hold the proud blood that runs into this earth. We know that love is the key to all we must conquer in this life. This was the message left by our ancestors. We feel the drum beat beneath us. It’s the heartbeat of these islands. We will show the world just what is means to love. We are the Polynesian people. We are here to show the world that we can live in peace in harmony.

There is no need for us to fuss and fight as long as we are one. We must remember what was taught to us when young. We are the Polynesian people. We are here to show the world that we can live in peace in harmony.
